Type D Blade

Round Edge

Both edges will be shaped like the letter D to allow for a quick seat and clean wipe. Some printers still use an unfinished square edge doctor blade in order to minimize their blade cost. Benton Graphics does not recommend using an unfinished edge to doctor. Anilox rolls and Gravure cylinders are precision pieces of equipment designed to deliver precise amount of inks, not to hone edges on doctor blades. The Type-D doctor blade has a smooth rounded edge for the same price as the square edge doctor blade.
Advantages:

Since both ends are rounded, either side of the blade can be used
Blade will seat quicker than square edge saving press downtime
Cleaner wipe than a square edge blade
Excellent blade for wide web Flexo. Can be used in most Flexographic applications, but not typically recommended for Gravure
